Happy new year Adventurebots! The robots are on display at the Tett Centre!

The indoor days of the holidays and inclement weather has granted ample time to run long prints of unique design variations of the robots.

Robot Butterflies on display in the Tett Gallery

Robot Butterfly exhibition setup at the Tett Gallery for the Tett residency showcase

Exhibition at the Tett Centre

Robot Butterfly has made a little nest at the Tett Gallery! The Tett residency showcase is underway, featuring art created during the year by the four resident artists.

Animated Robot Butterflies moving
January 28 - February 2 | 10:00AM - 5:00PM

If you have time this weekend, check out the robots and the art by the fellow artists!

Plus, the lighting setup makes the wings look extra sparkly, it's really neat!

What's new in this exhibition:

• 4 unique design variations

• 9 new photography prints, bringing the total to 15

• 30 video vignettes

• Experimental moss ceramics using a reaction-diffusion algorithm

• Art descriptions as rendered by an AxiDraw pen plotter

Here’s a snippet shared with a journalist about the exhibit:

“After seeing the compilation of work surrounding Robot Butterfly in this Tett residency showcase, I wish for the audiences to have a renewed sense of whimsy and appreciation for the elegance of nature. Robot Butterfly brought impact in the local community through its nature-inspired approach to robotics and inviting the community to participate in its grassroots outdoor activities.”

Hope some of the local folks will have a chance to view it!

Robot Enclosure Design Variations

Magenta-gold fern enclosure on the left, Bat enclosure on the right

Progress on the bat wing version of Robot Butterfly! The enclosure is done, printed in sparkly purple and glow in the dark. It features a hand drawn design of a bat encircled by a Celtic knot. As well, the smile has lil fangs to suit. 😄

Multi-colour enclosures with faces

The enclosures have "faces" now, embossed in the print, then painted with acrylic and with some gloss. There is also a frozen ice design, however it still has to be photographed. See more of the details in the photo gallery.

Interactive Robot Performance Survey

Handwritten survey text

One of the focus areas this quarter is an interactive robot performance stream where the robots can be remotely operated by viewers.

It would be great to hear your input on the idea through the survey! Thanks to anyone who has already completed the survey.

Fun start to the new year! It will be about time to bring the robots on an outdoor exploration, perhaps breakfast with squirrels again … or tobogganing, or ice skating!

Until next time,
